Arsenal fan view: My two hours supporting Spurs went exactly as I expected... and some people do this every week!

Tim Stillman's perspective on his two-hour stint as a Spurs supporter unfolded precisely as predicted.

It commenced with a faint glimmer of hope against all rational evidence, culminating inevitably in disappointment.

This scenario echoed a previous experience at Highbury on May 16, 1999, when Arsenal, vying for the Premier League title, relied on a favor from their North London rivals against Aston Villa. Despite chants of 'Come on you Spurs!' and banners proclaiming temporary allegiance, the outcome mirrored the recent disappointment.

While Arsenal fans debated their level of support for Tottenham on social media during the recent match, Stillman fully embraced the Spurs experience. He convinced himself of the merits of Cristian Romero's robustness and admired Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's ball circulation, only to feel a pang of disillusionment.

During the first half, Spurs displayed surprising competence against Manchester City's relentless dominance. Yet, City's early second-half goal by Erling Haaland signaled the inevitable resurgence of the opposing force.

Expecting Tottenham to falter, Stillman found himself surprised as they held their ground, until a missed opportunity by Heung-min Son dashed any remaining hope. Fortunately, his daughter slept through his colorful outburst in response.

The consolation, of course, is that my Tottenham Hotspur fandom was brief and I was able to cast it off at full-time, like discarding a sweaty sock on a hot summer’s day.

Some people have to do this every week, you know…
