Darren Dutchyshen, the longtime TSN broadcaster, has passed away, as announced by the network on Thursday.

TSN confirmed Dutchyshen's passing on Wednesday at the age of 57. While the cause of death was not disclosed, his family shared that he was "surrounded by his closest loved ones" in their statement.

"His sharp wit remained until his final moments, delivering plenty of jokes—most of them pretty good and all of them inappropriate," his family remarked.

Dutchyshen publicly revealed his battle with prostate cancer on September 9, 2021, which led him to take a year away from TSN for treatment.

Joining TSN in 1995, Dutchyshen became a fixture on the network's prominent SportsDesk and SportsCentre news programs for over three decades.

Hailing from Regina and raised in Porcupine Plain, Sask., Dutchyshen also contributed to TSN's CFL broadcasts and hosted Olympic Prime Time during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Stewart Johnston, senior vice-president for sales and sports at Bell Media, TSN's parent company, described Dutchyshen as a "larger-than-life personality" whose incredible sense of humor and magnetic energy resonated with viewers, emphasizing his enthusiasm for sports.

Dutchyshen's broadcasting journey began with STV in Saskatoon, followed by IMTV in Dauphin, Man., and included a seven-year tenure as the host of ITV's Sports Night in Edmonton.
