Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has pledged to ensure the passage of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) in the Senate.

The bill aims to implement safeguards and accountability measures to protect children from the dangers of social media and other online platforms, though some critics worry about potential censorship.

On June 20, Mr. Schumer initiated a floor discussion with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), underscoring the importance of KOSA and reaffirming his commitment as a co-sponsor.

"I have personally met with the families who have been harmed, heard their heartbreaking stories, and I am fully committed to working with them to get KOSA across the finish line," Mr. Schumer stated on the Senate floor.

"Last month, I developed a plan to pass KOSA through unanimous consent for a time agreement on the floor. I personally helped resolve issues and address the bill's unintended consequences. This effort has reduced the opposition, but there are still some holdouts."

Mr. Schumer emphasized that despite the remaining holdouts, senators "must pursue a different legislative path to get this done.

At the same time, a group of parents this week sent a letter to Mr. Schumer urging him to do all he can to pass the bill.

The parents are a part of a group called Parents for Safe Online Spaces (ParentsSOS).
